With Spotlight earning several Oscar nominations, The Club, Chile’s submission for Best Foreign Language Film, is a devastating look at the other side of the coin. The film drops in on the lives of four retired Catholic priests and their ex-nun caretaker, all living in a remote coastal village. Each man is kept there for a previous sin—from homosexuality to pedophilia—and the result is expectedly harrowing and heartbreaking, making for a difficult watch that will reward those with saintly patience.
