Aside from Peyton Manning’s promise to drink a lot of Budweiser, the most notable reaction to Sunday’s Super Bowl result was Cam Newton’s post-game press conference. Conan O’Brien put himself in Newton’s shoes after making a joke as poorly executed as the Carolina Panthers’ Super Bowl performance. Trying to crack wise about Newton’s press conference — which involved the star quarterback mumbling responses to reporters’ questions, and then abruptly walking off — O’Brien went, “Cam Newton? More like fig newton!”

The resounding boos, and withering stare from sidekick Andy Richter, forced O’Brien to undergo his own media mangling. The “post-joke press conference” featured anonymous reporters asking a hooded O’Brien questions like, “Why did you think calling Cam Newton a cookie was gonna get laughs?” and, “Is there any talk about TBS maybe trading you to another network now?” In his best Newton style, O’Brien mumbled responses and then quickly walked off.
