Beyoncé recently collaborated with Coldplay on “Hymn for the Weekend” (and during Sunday’s Super Bowl halftime show), but she doesn’t say “yes” to working with them on just any& song they throw her way. Chris Martin told Rolling Stone that Beyoncé once declined to appear on a song called “Hook Up.”

Martin told the magazine she turned it down “in the sweetest possible way.” He said, “She told me, ‘I really like you — but this is awful.'”

Beyoncé’s not the first big star to pass up a Coldplay track: Coldplay drummer Will Champion recently told NME that they asked David Bowie if he’d guest on one of their tracks. “And he came back and said, ‘It’s not a very good song, is it?'” Champion recounts. “He was very discerning. He wouldn’t just put his name to anything, so I’ll give him credit for that.”

Hear the Coldplay track that did earn Beyoncé’s stamp of approval below, and read more from Martin’s Rolling Stone cover story here.
