SNL: Zoolander, Hansel critique presidential candidate fashion
'Donny's just like us, he has the classic male model looks,' Derek says of Donald Trump
Promotional for Zoolander 2 is really hot right now — the film arrives in theaters on Friday — so it should come as little surprise that stars Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson appeared in character on Saturday’s edition of Saturday Night Live.
Stiller’s Derek Zoolander and Wilson’s Hansel were guests during Weekend Update, where they discussed the fashion style of this year’s presidential hopefuls.
“Hillary’s from the 90s, which are very hot right now,” Hansel said of Hillary Clinton. “They remade the X-Files and Full House, and I don’t know if you saw this on the news Tuesday, but O.J. Simpson killed again.”
“Hillary’s style reminds me of one of my all-time fashion icons: Kim Jong-un,” Zoolander added. “I’m pretty good friends with his sister, Kim Kardashi-un.”
What about Clinton’s opponent, Bernie Sanders? “Bernie’s a champion of the 99 percent. Apparently, the 99 percent off at JCPenny,” Zoolander quipped.
And Ted Cruz? “Tom Cruise. He has totally let himself go. This is a real mission impossible for his stylist,” Zoolander said, confusing the candidate for the Mission: Impossible star (jokes!).
Surely the two male models must have something to say about Donald Trump? “We love him,” Zoolander said when Weekend Update host Colin Jost brought up the controversial candidate. “Donny is just like us, he has the classic male model looks.” They they showed examples of Trump’s own variations on Zoolander’s Blue Steel, including “Orange Mocha Crapaccino,” “Hot mess,” and “Second place,” a dig on Trump losing at the Iowa caucus.
