The Monkees are back with a new album and national tour
- TV Show
It’s been 50 years since NBC introduced the world to The Monkees, a group of four young men that became both sitcom stars and a rock and roll band. To celebrate the half century together, members Micky Dolenz and Peter Tork are releasing a new album and going out on a North American tour in 2016.
The new album, called Good Times!, is the band’s first release in nearly a decade, and the recording process has attracted a number of impressive names in the music industry. Noel Gallagher, Rivers Cuomo, and Ben Gibbard have all contributed songs for the collection, and Fountains of Wayne bassist Adam Schlesinger is producing it.
The Monkees reunited in 2011 for a 45-year reunion tour, minus fourth member Mike Nesmith who didn’t join. However, when Davy Jones died of a heart attack in 2012, Nesmith joined Dolenz and Tork to play some live shows. As of now, the new album and tour will only feature Dolenz and Tork, though Dolenz told Rolling Stone that Nesmith is “always invited.”
