Attica Locke, writer and producer for Fox’s hit show, Empire, will write two new crime novels with Mulholland Books, an imprint of Little, Brown and Company, EW can announce exclusively. The first of these books is slated for a fall 2017 publication.

“This is a dream for me,” says Locke in a statement. “I’m incredibly excited to be at Little, Brown, and part of the Mulholland imprint. They bring an intellectual curiosity and literary sophistication to crime fiction that’s exactly what I want my work to be.”

“I’ve been a fan of Attica Locke’s ever since I read her wonderful first novel — she’s a brilliant storyteller with a unique and unforgettable voice, and I’m thrilled to welcome her to Mulholland Books and Little, Brown,” says Reagan Arthur, Senior Vice President and Publisher of Little, Brown and Company.

Locke’s first novel, Black Water Rising, earned a slew of accolades, including nominations for an Edgar Award, an NAACP Image Award, a Los Angeles Times Book Prize, and was short-listed for the UK’s Orange Prize (now known as the Baileys Women’s Prize for Fiction).
