Rami Malek's 'Gilmore Girls' role was his first acting job
Two of the biggest names in the entertainment industry this year are Rami Malek and Gilmore Girls — Malek blew up thanks to his award-winning role as the hacker Elliot in Mr. Robot, and the confirmation of a Gilmore Girls revival on Netflix has everyone binge-rewatching the mother-daughter dramedy. The rising dramatic actor and quirky 2000s-era show seem to have little in common, but Malek’s first acting credit was actually from a small guest role on Gilmore Girls.
In the season 4 episode “In the Clamor and the Clangor,” Malek donned a sweater vest to play Andy, a classmate of Lane’s during her time at a Seventh-day Adventist college. He, Lane, and a few other students were part of a group project in which they had to select a “distinguished leader” to interview, and Andy is surprisingly intent that said person should be assistant pastor Eric.
But Malek isn’t alone: Gilmore Girls had a pretty impressive history of casting guest stars that went on to become very successful actors, such as Jon Hamm, Nick Offerman, and Seth MacFarlane. Fans will have to wait until the four-part revival series hits Netflix to see if any other stars stop by Stars Hollow.
