Clive Owen’s character Walt knows he’s not perfect, but he’s trying to be better for his son in The Confirmation.

In the first trailer for Nebraska scribe Bob Nelson’s directorial debut, The Knick star portrays a father trying to reconnect with his 8-year-old, Anthony (Jaeden Lieberher), while the boy’s mother and stepfather are away at a Catholic retreat.

Anthony seems to be undergoing his own trials, asking questions about religion. “Listen to what they say, and then decide for yourself,” Walt (Owen) urges him. “Do what you think is right.”

Walt also seems to be on an adventure to find his stolen toolbox. He must enlist Drake (Patton Oswalt), a drywaller and occasional meth consumer, for help.
