NickToons … assemble?

The characters of such Nickelodeon animated series as Rugrats, Ren & Stimpy, and Rocko’s Modern Life are headed to the big-screen in a crossover movie to be directed by Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite, Nacho Libre), EW has confirmed.

Hess is also on board to co-write Nicktoons, which will follow the spirit of the 1998 toon comedy Who Framed Roger Rabbit, with wife and frequent collaborator Jerusha Hess (Austenland).

Paramount, Nickelodeon, and Disruption Entertainment are producing the film.

The project arrives at the intersection of two Hollywood trends, as Avengers-style team-ups (Universal’s monster universe, Warner Bros’. Justice League franchise) and ’90s nostalgia (Fuller House, The Splat) are both in vogue.

Deadline first reported the NickToons news.
