The titular Kubo is on a mission to save his family and uncover the mysteries surrounding his father in Kubo and the Two Strings. But the boy with a penchant for storytelling isn’t alone on his adventure — he’s got his magical shamisen to help him fight evil in the newest trailer for the upcoming Laika-animated film.

Set to a cover of The Beatles’ “While My Guitar Gently Weeps,” Kubo (Game of Thrones‘ Art Parkinson) ventures out to do battle with a number of intimidating threats, from the Moon King (Ralph Fiennes) to the twin Sisters (Rooney Mara), but Kubo’s journey also sees him join forces with friendly faces like Monkey (Charlize Theron) and Beetle (Matthew McConaughey).

The trailer, in addition to showing off Kubo’s relationship with his two string, also puts Laika’s blend of stop-motion and CGI animation on full display. The latest from the studio behind ParaNorman and Coraline is set to hit theaters on Aug. 19.
