Before he pulls on a leather jacket in Grease, Broadway star Aaron Tveit is quickly slipping into something a little more pink. Metaphorically.

Tveit stars as Danny Zuko in Fox’s upcoming telecast of Grease: Live on Jan. 31, but before he landed the T-Bird role, he appeared in another now-iconic musical: Wicked, now in its 13th year on Broadway.

In a fun music video for the show’s “Studio Sessions” series, he abandons the role he played twice on Broadway — Winkie prince Fiyero — and inherits G(a)linda’s ode to social awareness, “Popular.”

Check out the exclusive EW video below:

Tveit is, after all, a creature of the stage, before he burst into the pop culture ether with his roles on USA’s Graceland or the film version of Les Miserables. He starred on Broadway in Hairspray, Next to Normal, and Catch Me If You Can (playing the Leonardo DiCaprio role). Grease is in a sense his post-Graceland theatrical return, but he’ll get right back to non-singing with CBS’s upcoming summer thriller, BrainDead.
