Super Sad True Love Story: Showtime developing Ben Stiller-produced adaptation
Showtime wants to tell you a Super Sad True Love Story.
The cable network confirmed on Monday that it is developing a hourlong series based on the Gary Shteyngart’s 2010 novel Super Sad True Love Story.
Ben Stiller, the co-writer/director/star of the upcoming big-screen comedy Zoolander 2, will executive-produce and direct the pilot, and Shteyngart will be serve as a co-executive producer of the project, which Stiller began developing last year.
The prospective series — which is set in the not-too-distant future and centers on a middle-aged protagonist Lenny Abramov, who falls for a younger Korean-American named Eunice Park — is summed up as “a satire of contemporary American values and trends, including the erosion of American political values, the obsession with youth, and the urge to publish personal information through social networking.”
Stiller’s production company, Red Hour Films, has produced such TV shows as Another Period, Big Time in Hollywood, FL, The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail, and The Birthday Boys, as well as the web series Burning Love.
Variety first reported the story.
