High School Musical fans were irate when it was revealed star Zac Efron would not participate in the film’s cast reunion. But Jimmy Kimmel provided Efron devotees with the next best thing on Thursday’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! broadcast: video of Efron performing in a high school musical.

The late-night host surprised Efron with video from the actor’s teen years, given to the show by Efron’s former high school drama teacher. In the clip, Efron performs a song from You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown and does the moonwalk. “That crushed back then,” Efron told Kimmel of the dance after the video ended. Egged on by Kimmel, Efron then showed the Jimmy Kimmel Live! audience that he still possessed the moonwalk moves.

While Efron didn’t participate in the official High School Musical reunion, the actor has said in the past that he would show up for a future movie, if it happened. “I continue to see all the guys from High School,” Efron told E! online in 2014. “Every time we do…there’s just this look between us. It’s so cool because we never forget a single moment of that experience.”
