American Crime Story: When Sarah Paulson met Marcia Clark
'I thought I was gonna start to cry or something,' the actress tells EW
It’s almost uncanny how much actress Sarah Paulson (American Horror Story) looks like prosecutor Marcia Clark in FX’s miniseries The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story. But the actress actually didn’t meet Clark until well into production on the show at the behest of the producers, including AHS‘ co-creator Ryan Murphy.
“I really wanted to,” Paul admits to EW. “The more I read about her the more I just completely fell in love with her and I thought I have to talk to this woman. I went through sorta funky routes and found out little things, like what her perfume was during the trial.”

Eventually the pair were connected through a mutual friend and had dinner. “It was a very extraordinary thing,” remembers the actress. “It felt like I was meeting Meryl Streep or something. I had a great deal of sympathy for her. When I first saw her, I just sort of started to squeal and I hid my face. I thought I was gonna start to cry or something. We had a lovely meal. It was a very wild thing.”
Adds the actress, “The first time I met her, Marcia did say to me, ‘I’m sorry about the hair. And the blazers — I’m sorry about the blazers.’ I actually like these blazers. I love a shoulder pad!”
