Saturday Night Live got a late start to usher in its 2016. Not only did fans have to wait three weeks before the first episode of the new year, but it then got delayed past midnight by NFL playoff football. Fortunately, Adam Driver proved to be worth the wait. The towering actor, best known for his star-making role as Kylo Ren in the new Star Wars film, has a fascinating background, both personally and professionally. For one, he’s an ex-Marine. As an actor, he became a TV fave on Lena Dunham’s Girls, while also popping up in movies like Lincoln, Inside Llewyn Davis, and While We’re Young.
He had some choice sketches on his SNL debut, but people were probably most excited by his pre-taped bit as Kylo Ren on Undercover Boss. Personally, I preferred the sketch where he played an NBC broadcaster who kept replaying a truly gruesome NFL football injury. Another sketch, with Driver on a post-Golden Globes drug binge with his wife, culminating in Liev Schreiber cooking breakfast for their kids, delivered some of the best belly-laughs of the show.
Not bad at all, for a first-timer. Unfortunately, he’s got some seriously formidable competition. His Star Wars film may have squashed Sisters at the box office, but the tables are turned in the best SNL host poll. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, who hosted the Christmas show, are the ones to beat. They dominated the most recent poll, with almost 74 percent of the vote. The previous frontrunner, Chris Hemsworth, crashed 44 points to fourth place, and Tracy Morgan was eliminated.
Tina Fey & Amy Poehler 73.6% (—)
Ryan Gosling 10.8% (-17 pts)
Amy Schumer 6.7% (-7)
Chris Hemsworth 5.5% (-44)
Tracy Morgan 3.4% (-2)
Our rules are simple: Who was the best, most memorable SNL host this season? More specifically, who do you hope gets invited back next year? Whose show had your boss, your mom, and your roommate still giggling on Monday morning? It’s subjective, of course, but let’s reward the guest hosts who brought something special to the table. So far, we’ve eliminated Morgan, Matthew McConaughey, Elizabeth Banks, Miley Cyrus, and Donald Trump.

Below, see one representative clip from each of the five hosts, just as a small taste of their recent performances. You’re not voting on this one sketch alone; be sure to consider the entire episode. Make your pick below, and the host with the least support will be eliminated; the other four will advance to compete against Ronda Rousey on Jan. 23. Ultimately, we’ll dismiss the less memorable hosts and crown a new Mr. or Ms. Saturday Night in May. Watch and vote below.
