Long live the queen: Danish actress Connie Nielsen has been cast as Hippolyta, ruler of the Amazons and mother of the titular heroine in Warner Bros.’ Wonder Woman movie.

She joins an ensemble including Gal Gadot as Princess Diana/Wonder Woman and Chris Pine as love interest Steve Trevor, along with Robin Wright, David Thewlis, Danny Huston, and Ewen Bremner.

Nielsen is no stranger to the crown, having portrayed Roman royalty in Gladiator opposite Russell Crowe. Her other credits include The Devil’s Advocate, One Hour Photo, Nymphomaniac, and TV’s Boss and The Following.

Patty Jenkins (Monster) is directing Wonder Woman, which will further flesh out WB’s cinematic universe based on DC Comics characters. Plot details have yet to be revealed, though Pine recently said the movie is set against the backdrop of World War I.

Production is currently underway, and the film is scheduled to hit theaters June 23, 2017.
