Christian Bale just hit the brakes on playing the famed Italian automaker Enzo Ferrari.

A representative for the actor confirmed to EW that he has dropped out of director Michael Mann’s Enzo Ferrari biopic because he is concerned about the health effects of gaining the weight necessary to play the role, and doing so in time for a spring shoot.

Bale has transformed his body several times over the course of his career, including starving himself for The Machinist, packing on muscle for the Dark Knight films, and getting pudgy for American Hustle.

Paramount Pictures, which is distributing Ferrari in most territories, did not immediately respond to request for comment.

According to Deadline, which first reported the news, the filmmakers plan to recast the role and move forward forward with the project.
