Debra Messing has been fighting crime on The Mysteries of Laura for the past two years. But now EW has confirmed that she’ll be battling a young daughter who just really, really wants to boogie in ABC’s upcoming remake of the 1987 classic Dirty Dancing. Messing will play Marjorie Houseman, the mother of Baby (Scream Queens‘ Abigail Breslin).
In the original, Marjorie mostly sits at a table and stares (she sort of does get put in a corner unlike Baby) so here’s hoping Messing gets a bit more to do in this remake.

The new Dancing will be directed by Wayne Blair (The Sapphires) from a script by American Horror Story‘s Jessica Scharzer.
