“For those 10 seconds, you are completely free,” Stephan James says as real-life Olympian Jesse Owens in the new teaser for Race. Owens dominated the 1936 Olympics in Berlin, winning four gold medals while Adolf Hitler and his self-proclaimed master race watched.

Race, directed by Stephen Hopkins (Lost in Space), offers a look at the triumphs and turmoil of Owens’ race toward world records in the face of international political and racial tensions. The new spot highlights his relationship with legendary Ohio State track coach Larry Snyder, as the dream of running in the Olympics gets complicated by the pressures of competing in Nazi Germany on the eve of World War II.

James, who starred in 2014’s Selma, brings Owens’ story to life alongside a cast that includes Jason Sudeikis, William Hurt, Jeremy Irons, and Carice van Houten. Race hits theaters on Feb. 19.
