When EW spoke with director James Gunn on the Monday following the hugely successful release of 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy, the filmmaker revealed that he had spent the previous couple of days plotting out the film’s follow-up. “I worked on the sequel for a large part of the weekend,” he said. “Admittedly, I did go out last night to celebrate a little. But it wasn’t a late night.”

Seventeen months on, Gunn’s toils — at least writing-wise — are complete. Today, the director posted on Facebook a photo of the latest draft of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (out May 5, 2017), along with the message, “Coming to you presently Chris Pratt, Zoe Zaldana, Dave Bautista (Batista), Michael Rooker, Sean Gunn, Vin Diesel.” (Subsequently queried by a commenter about the absence of Bradley Cooper from the list of tagged actors, Gunn wrote that neither Cooper nor his fellow GotG cast member Karen Gillan are on Facebook.)

In response to a comment asking if this latest version of the script was also the last, Gunn replied, “I always make very tiny changes along the way, but this is essentially the final draft.”

Gunn also confirmed that he has decided which tunes will feature on the sequel’s soundtrack, writing that “all the songs are in the script you see above.”
