Kat Graham to play Jada Pinkett Smith in Tupac biopic All Eyez on Me
Vampire Diaries star Kat Graham has signed on to play Jada Pinkett Smith in the upcoming Tupac Shakur movie, EW has confirmed.
Graham will star in All Eyez on Me as Smith, a longtime friend of the iconic rapper. Smith and Tupac first met in high school at the Baltimore School for the Arts.
Graham joins newcomer Demetrius Shipp Jr., who joined the cast last month as Tupac, Jamal Woolard, who will play Biggie Smalls, and Walking Dead star Danai Gurira, who recently signed on to play Tupac’s mother, Afeni Shakur. Music video director Benny Boom recently stepped in as director, replacing Carl Franklin and John Singleton.
All Eyez on Me, the title of which is taken from Tupac’s fourth studio album, follows the rapper’s rise to stardom, and the film is currently in production in Atlanta after years of trying to get it off the ground. Back in 2009, Shakur’s mother, Afeni Shakur, filed a lawsuit against the production, but the suit has since been resolved and she is now involved with the film as an executive producer.
The Morgan Creek Productions film will be distributed by Open Road, and a release date has not been set yet.
