Golden Globes 2016: Gael García Bernal wins Best Actor, Comedy, for Mozart in the Jungle
Music is '[the] common ground for communication, for justice, for happiness,' said Bernal while accepting the honor
Rodrigo de Souza may be busy practicing with the New York symphony, but the man behind the maestro is being acknowledged for conducting with the blood.
Gael García Bernal has won the Best Actor in a TV Comedy or Musical Golden Globe for his work as Rodrigo de Souza on Amazon’s Mozart in the Jungle. The win keeps the award in the Amazon family, as Jeffrey Tambor won for his role on Transparent last year. Mozart in the Jungle also won for Best TV Comedy at this year’s awards.
“I want to dedicate this to music, to all the people that play their music, [the] common ground for communication, for justice, for happiness,” Bernal said in his acceptance speech.
Mozart‘s second season premiered on Amazon on Dec. 30, focusing on the New York symphony’s contract disputes, bubbling romances, and much more.
This is Bernal’s first win for the role, besting Tambor, Master of None‘s Aziz Ansari, The Grinder‘s Rob Lowe, and Blunt Talk‘s Patrick Stewart.
