If The Room is the Citizen Kane of bad movies, then “Hi, doggy!” might be its “Rosebud.”

As fans of amateur auteur Tommy Wiseau’s 2003 cult favorite know, the canine salutation is one of the most notoriously random lines of dialogue in a movie that’s chock-full of hypnotically stilted acting and logic-defying plot contortions (not to mention cut-rate production values).

And since meta-loving actor and filmmaker James Franco is directing his own movie about the making of The Room — that would be The Disaster Artist, based on Greg Sestero’s memoir — it falls to him to recreate the infamous moment. Judging from a sneak peek from his Instagram account, he nailed it.
