Turns out journalist David Frost isn’t the only person to have a cinema-worthy confrontation with Richard Nixon. The most-requested photo in the National Archives, in fact, is a picture of Nixon shaking hands with none other than Elvis Presley. A new film, Elvis & Nixon, will tell the story of Dec. 21, 1970, when an aging Presley (Michael Shannon) showed up at the White House demanding to meet with President Nixon (Kevin Spacey), and be made a federal agent in the war against drugs and Communism.

Nixon, desperate to appeal to young Americans, agrees to meet with Presley even if it interrupts his “nap hour.” They do, after all, agree in their hatred of The Beatles. But as the trailer shows, nothing about this meeting is easy or normal. For one thing, Presley doesn’t care that only Nixon gets to eat the M&M’s in the Oval Office.

Elvis & Nixon is directed by Liza Johnson, produced by Amazon Studios, and will be released sometime this April. Watch the trailer above.
