Star Wars: Force Awakens opening crawl for Men's Rights Activists
Star Wars: The Force Awakens has made more than $1.5 billion at the global box office since its December release, but a group of men’s rights activists claim the number could have been even higher with their support.
The group criticized Star Wars before its release for the film’s diverse cast of characters, including non-white male lead characters Rey (Daisy Ridley), Finn (John Boyega), and Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac). According to the blog Return of Kings, an estimated $4.2 million in sales was lost because of the site having identified Force Awakens as “SJW [Social Justice Warrior] Propaganda.”
Forbes dismissed the group’s mathematics, but the piece did get Return of Kings on Tuesday’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live. Host Jimmy Kimmel addressed the group’s reporting, and then mocked them with a new, “men’s rights group-approved” opening crawl for the Force Awakens.
“BRAH!” it began, before relaying that while Luke Skywalker has vanished, the First Order is “pretty dope” and has some “pretty interesting things to say about women and minorities.” The crawl ends with a hand-drawn pair of women’s breasts because “reading is hella boring.”
