Much like its cousin franchise Star Wars, George Lucas and Steven Spielberg’s Indiana Jones series has a knack for inspiring unique fervor among fans. One fan film stands above the rest, however. Three Mississippi boys were so enchanted by Raiders of the Lost Ark in 1981, they set out to remake the movie, shot for shot. Their 30-year quest is chronicled in the new documentary Raiders!: The Story of the Greatest Fan Film Ever Made. Directed by Jeremy Coon and Tim Skousen, Raiders! features interviews with John Rhys-Davies, Eli Roth, and others as it describes the project’s culmination and impact.

Raiders! has screened at festivals like SXSW and DOC NYC, and it was announced on Wednesday that worldwide distribution rights were recently acquired by Drafthouse.

“We couldn’t be happier in partnering with a bunch of true film fans like Drafthouse Films to release Raiders!” Skousen said in a release. “It’s the perfect match for our story about three film crazed kids spending their entire childhood recreating the all-time classic, Raiders of the Lost Ark.”

Raiders! is now set for a limited theatrical release this summer, followed by a Blu-Ray/DVD release later in the year. Check out a tease for the film below.
