Mindy Kaling favorite romantic comedies revealed
'Bridget Jones’s Diary,' 'The Princess Bride,' and 'Silver Linings Playbook' made the cut.
It’s pretty well known that Mindy Kaling is a rom-com superfan. (Her show, The Mindy Project, has made numerous references to them.) So for those of you who’ve wondered what some of her favorites are, the wait is over. Kaling tweeted a list, aptly titled “FAVORITE ROMANTIC COMEDIES,” on Wednesday via The List App.
The list begins with a note, “An Annie Hall-less list, for originality reasons. Suggested by BJ [Novak],” and features nine films, some to be expected (You’ve Got Mail is one that has been referenced on The Mindy Project) and some less so: Bridget Jones’s Diary, You’ve Got Mail, The American President, The Princess Bride, The Apartment, A League of Their Own, The Holiday, Strictly Ballroom, and Silver Linings Playbook. (Let the “Mindy Kaling’s Favorite Romantic Comedies” marathons ensue…)
She writes of Bridget Jones’s Diary, “A movie as good as the book, and in some ways even better because Hugh Grant and Colin Firth were better than the Daniel Cleaver and Mark Darcy of your mind.” As for The Princess Bride, “Page for page the best written romantic comedy script, in my opinion.” And Silver Linings Playbook, “I don’t care if you have a real bad mental illness, Bradley Cooper, I’ll dance with you. Beautifully written.”
