Laurie Anderson dog concert: Artist to perform in Times Square
Experimental musician Laurie Anderson will stage a concert in Times Square Monday, but her target audience won’t be humans. Anderson will perform a special set for dogs at the famed New York destination. Beginning at 11:30 p.m. she’ll use speakers to emit canine-friendly, low-frequency noises for attending pups — although 350 sets of wireless headphones will be on hand for humans interested in the performance.
Anderson staged a similar concert in 2010 at the Sydney Opera House. She’s rebooting the idea as part of Times Square’s “Midnight Moment” series, which is a coordinated project to display synchronized content across the location’s many electronic billboards. Along with the concert, Anderson has contributed a 3-minute adaptation of her feature film, Heart of a Dog — itself short-listed for an Academy Award — to air on Times Square screens from 11:57 p.m. to midnight every evening through the end of January.
