In case you had any doubts, Adele’s 25 is officially the best-selling album of 2015, according to Billboard’s final chart.
After breaking numerous records, selling 3.48 million copies in its first week, and shattering *NSYNC’s record for first-week album sales, 25 is still the hottest album of the year. The collection held its No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 for the sixth week in a row, ending Dec. 31, and sold another 363,000 equivalent album units in the last week of the year. Those numbers add to the collection’s already monumental sales; 25 closes out the year with 7.44 million copies sold, making it the best selling album in a year since 2004’s Confessions by Usher, which sold 7.98 million that year.
25 was released in November, which means the collection had less than two months to rake in the sales for the calendar year.
Last year, Taylor Swift’s 1989 beat out the Frozen soundtrack to have the best selling album of 2014, but in comparison to Adele’s 25, Swift’s collection sold 3.66 million copies that year, according to Billboard. Frozen, which was released in 2013, sold 3.46 million.
