We already know from the title of Star Wars: The Force Awakens that, well, the Force is going to awaken. But when young stars Oscar Isaac, John Boyega, and Daisy Ridley stopped by The Ellen DeGeneres Show, the host wanted to know if anything else might be stirring in the new movie — like romance?

In a preview of Thursday’s episode, DeGeneres asks the trio whether sparks will fly between their characters. “If you lie to me, I’ll be mad,” she warns.

“I think it’s very subtle romance that’s happening,” teases Isaac, who plays the swashbuckling X-wing pilot Poe Dameron. “You have to just look very closely, you have to watch it a few times to see the little hints, but there was. At least, I was playing romance. In the cockpit I was playing, there was a deep romance there.”

Sounds good, right? Not so fast. He adds, “I won’t say with which character, but there was. … Could be a droid.” (Here’s looking at you, BB-8?)

As for Boyega, who plays an AWOL Stormtrooper named Finn, his character “is not the romantic guy right now,” he says. “He’s always sweating and panting or running. He doesn’t really have time for that.”

Finally, DeGeneres turns to Ridley, who plays lone scavenger Rey. “Any romance for you?”

“We shall see,” the British actress replies.

“Oh! So yes?” says DeGeneres, her interest piqued.

“No, not necessarily,” Ridley counters. “But it’s exciting to say ‘We shall see.'”
