Star Wars: Episode VII — The Force Awakens

  • Movie

Not much is known yet about Daisy Ridley’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens character yet. Her Rey is a scavenger on the planet of Jakku and gets to pal around with everyone’s favorite new droid, BB-8, but we don’t even know Rey’s last name or much else about her story. But despite all the secrecy, the latest Star Wars hero has already won over fans.

At the world premiere of The Force Awakens in Los Angeles on Monday, Ridley told EW how it feels to be playing Rey at the dawn of this new era for the beloved franchise.

“I think flying into L.A. on Friday and being met by a tiny Rey just summed up the whole thing,” the British actress said.

“It’s amazing that it reaches the audience it does,” Ridley continued. “I think Rey is a great character for people to see and perhaps relate to her, and see something in her that they feel and connect with the story — that, I just think, is amazing.”

Star Wars: The Force Awakens officially opens on Friday, but Ridley is among the select few who have already gotten to see the film — an experience that she said moved her to tears.

“I came out [after the movie] and was like, ‘Yeah, I’m cool,’” she said, “and then in the car I was like [makes a crying face/noises] the whole way, and then the whole way home — a 10-hour journey,” she revealed earlier this month.
