Supergirl fall finale ends with two big cliff-hangers
Kara will face her toughest battle yet in Supergirl‘s fall finale.
After Astra’s (Laura Benanti) Kryptonian thugs captured Kara (Melissa Benoist) at the close of last week’s episode, Supergirl will find herself trying to escape her aunt’s grasp on Monday, which is made especially difficult now that Astra has a few tricks up her sleeve. “There’s a little bit of a surprising revelation that Astra has figured out a way to neutralize Kryptonite,” executive producer Andrew Kreisberg teases. “That’s certainly going to make her a little bit tougher to deal with.”
However, the actual physical fight — which we hear takes on epic proportions in the finale — is not as trying as the emotional one that’s in store for the Maiden of Might. “This becomes a very emotional episode,” Kreisberg says, “because it’s been very easy for Kara to be angry with Astra, and think that Astra is the villain, but Astra comes with some surprising news about Kara’s mother that begins to make Kara question the unwavering faith that she’s always put in her mother.”

“This is a huge episode for us,” he continues. “We have two pretty big cliff-hangers — one emotional and one literal. Just like any of our other shows, it’s really an epic two-parter and part two kicks off when we get back in January.”
Case in point: While part of Astra’s motivations are partially uncovered in the fall finale, “The true nature of her plan will not come to fruition until the episodes in the new year,” Kreisberg says.
But Kara’s not the only one dealing with disaster in the fall finale. After Cat Grant’s (Calista Flockhart) email account is hacked, the CatCo CEO faces her dirty little secrets getting outed to the world. Check out how she reacts in this sneak peek from Monday’s episode:
Supergirl airs Monday at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.
