There is a great disturbance in the already brutal force that is Los Angeles rush hour traffic this evening, as the world premiere of Star Wars: The Force Awakens is taking place at the El Capitan, Dolby and TCL Chinese theaters in Hollywood — the latter of which is same historic venue where Star Wars premiered on May 25, 1977.
Fans have been camping out in Hollywood for days, extensive security measures have been set up, and a long stretch of Hollywood Boulevard has been closed in anticipation of the premiere. The film’s stars and celebrity fans alike are posting to social media as they get ready and make their way to Hollywood Boulevard to walk the red carpet (you can watch their procession on StarWars.com, which began at 8:30 p.m. ET). Here are some of their photos and tweets on the eve of a new pop culture awakening.
