Valerian, a film with one of the most unexpected assemblages of acting talent, recently added music legend Herbie Hancock in an unknown role.

Director Luc Besson made the announcement on Instagram, writing, “Herbie Hancock is a legend. His music was my only friend at 14…I learn so much listening this genius…I’m proud to have him for a role in.”

The Grammy-winning jazz musician, who won an Oscar for his original score to ‘Round Midnight, joins the already cast Dane DeHaan, Cara Delevigne, Rihanna, Ethan Hawke, and Clive Owen. The film is based on a French sci-fi comic centering on the time-traveler Valerian and his sidekick Laureline.
