Madonna performs 'Like a Prayer' for Paris victims
Following her concert at Paris’ Bercy arena Wednesday night, Madonna posted up at Place de la Republique for an intimate surprise performance. The pop star started off with “Ghosttown” off Rebel Heart before breaking out into a cover of John Lennon’s “Imagine,” which Coldplay and pianist Davide Martello also played and dedicated to the Nov. 13 attack victims last month.
But it was Madonna’s acoustic performance of 1989’s “Like a Prayer” that really united the crowd. With her 10-year-old son David in hand, Madonna quietly sang the title track from her fourth album.
“Everybody knows why we’re here,” Madonna told the Republicque crowd, per the BBC. “We just want to sing a few songs about peace, just to spread love and joy, and to pay our honor and respect to the people who died almost four weeks ago.”
