The Lion Guard: Disney's Lion King revival series to debut in January
- TV Show
Disney’s return to Pride Rock is ready to roll.
The Lion Guard, the animated cable series spun off from the beloved movie The Lion King, will premiere Jan. 15 on the Disney Channel, the company announced Wednesday.
Set up by the TV movie The Lion Guard: Return of the Roar, which delivered strong ratings last month, the new series continues the adventures of Kion (Max Charles), the second-born cub of Simba (Rob Lowe) and Nala (Gabrielle Union), as he and his animal friends unite to protect their homeland.
Joining the cast are Blair Underwood as Makuu, leader of the crocodiles; Ana Gasteyer as Reirei, a scheming jackal; and Maia Mitchell as Jasiri, a friendly hyena.
Jason Marsden, Andy Dick, and Lacey Chabert will also reprise their roles from the 1998 direct-to-video sequel The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride in an upcoming episode.
