Tia Mowry hits back at body shamers: 'We live in a society that is so obsessed with being perfect'
After a few Instagram commenters suggested she might be pregnant, Tia Mowry is firing back, shutting down those rumors as a form of body shaming.
Stopping by HuffPost Live, the host of Tia Mowry at Home attributed her weight gain to her show on the Cooking Channel, saying, “I’m not pregnant, I am just happy.”
“I’m just enjoying life and when I want to drop the pounds, I will, but right now I’m happy with who I am,” Mowry said. “But it is a form of body shaming, I will say that, and it’s pretty unfortunate… We live in a society that is so obsessed with being perfect.”
Mowry added that body shaming is especially widespread on social media and that we need to expand our definitions of beauty.
“We need to be more supportive with body images, especially with women, showing that all sizes are beautiful,” she said. “And I’m talking about in magazines, advertisements, in regards to what’s sexy and not sexy. We all need to be a little more supportive of each other. I think if we start there, we’ll see a difference.” Watch her interview below.
