Red Mars TV series ordered by Spike, based on Kim Stanley Robinson's bestselling trilogy
Spike is taking us to Mars.
The network has ordered 10 episodes of Red Mars, based on Kim Stanley Robinson’s bestselling sci-fi trilogy. The show — which will debut in January 2017 — will be Spike’s first original scripted drama in nine years.
The Mars Trilogy — Red Mars, Green Mars, and Blue Mars — is a chronicle of the first colonization of the Red Planet, told from a variety of characters who must adapt to the harsh new conditions as they become the first generation of Martians. Since Red Mars was published in 1992, the hard science fiction books have been adapted in 21 languages.
The hourlong dramawill be written and executive produced by J. Michael Straczynski (Sense8). Vince Gerardis (Game of Thrones) will also serve as EP, along with David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Marcy Ross.
