The Wiz Live! wasn’t missing that much, but imagine if it found room for Ryan Gosling’s impersonation of original Wizard of Oz star Ray Bolger. That’s what Saturday Night Live did, showing off a fake deleted scene from the musical event featuring Gosling as Bolger’s Scarecrow.

The set-up was pretty simple: Gosling’s Scarecrow got lost while traveling from West Oz, and he ended up in the company of the Wiz cast in East Oz. “This Oz is not for you,” Kenan Thompson’s Cowardly Lion told Scarecrow after he performed a brief snippet of “If I Only Had a Brain.”

“I didn’t think it would be, but now that I’m here it’s really great. There’s so much color,” Scarecrow replied, before being shouted down. He clarified: “No, no. I just meant in the world. There’s a lot of heart and soul here. It’s much better than where I’m from.”

Scarecrow went on to explain how his friends disposed of the Wicked Witch, engendering goodwill from the East Oz group. All’s well that ends… well, with the Dab. Watch it unfold below.
