Let’s go for a ride…

In the second of four weekly videos detailing the behind-the-scenes work that went into Star Wars: The Force Awakens, I dive into the tech specs of the the desert speeder used by Daisy Ridley’s scavenger character, Rey.

Production designer Darren Gilford and art director Gary Tomkins offered exclusive details on the creation of the machine and how it fits into the desperate world of Jakku.

With a little help from a remarkably detailed Hasbro toy, EW walks you through the elements of our own world that factored into this galactic harvester — and what purpose it serves for Rey in her bid to survive in an unrelentingly harsh place.
