For the past few years, the Obamas have visited independent bookstores in Washington D.C. on Small Business Saturday, a holiday after Thanksgiving that supports locally-owned businesses. Past trips to the bookstore include titles that later appear on his summer reading lists.

A notoriously voracious reader, Obama and his daughters, Sasha and Malia, have previously patronized bookstore Politics & Prose on the holiday, but this year they chose Upshur Street Books instead. This year’s list includes books like Jonathan Franzen’s Purity and Salman Rushdie’s Two Years Eight Months and Twenty-Eight Nights: A Novel.
