It’s amazing what a good idea can do, right? In Joy, the new film directed by David O. Russell and starring Jennifer Lawrence, it’s what takes the title character from a dead-end job and debt up to her eyeballs to becoming the successful matriarch of her family.

A new TV spot for the film debuted over the weekend, narrated by Lawrence’s protagonist, that lays out Joy’s life and how something has to change — and what happens when it does.

The third in what sounds like a long series of collaborations between Lawrence and Russell (“I’ll do anything with you until you die,” she told the director over the weekend at a screening), Joy — also starring Bradley Cooper, Robert De Niro, Elisabeth Rohm, Edgar Ramirez, Diane Ladd, Virginia Madsen, and Isabella Rossellini — opens in theaters on Christmas Day.

Watch the new TV spot, “Success,” above, and another, titled “Chance,” below.
