That Star Wars fan theory suggesting Jar Jar Binks was a Sith mastermind and the franchise’s key evildoer went viral? Count J.J. Abrams as a fan.

During a Sirius XM Town Hall on Monday, the Star Wars: Force Awakens director was asked to cite his favorite bit of fan speculation, and he went right to Jar Jar. “I’m sure there are some I don’t know, but the one I heard that I think is so great is the Jar Jar is a Sith one,” Abrams said in the video above.

The theory was first posted by Reddit user Lumpawarroo last month, and explained in great detail how the infamous sidekick introduced by George Lucas in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace was actually pulling strings for the Sith (and could even be Supreme Leader Snoke, Andy Serkis’ character in The Force Awakens).

“There was this unbelievably lengthy analysis, in a very seriously thought-out way, as to why it’s obviously true that he is [evil],” Abrams said. “That to me is remarkable.”
