Superman III

After the high-water mark of the first two Superman films starring Christopher Reeve, Superman III came out to a resounding critical thud in 1983. But would the horrors of a bad action film work better as an actual horror film?

It would appear so in the fan-cut trailer Superman III — From Horrible to Horror, released by film history appreciation website One Perfect Shot. The trailer transforms the film’s take on Superman into one of absolute horror, his drinking and other dark moments painting the picture of a flying, destructive monster.

Richard Pryor’s Gus, and much of the film’s goofier aspects in general, are toned down in the recut trailer, with Superman’s Jekyll and Hyde-style fight played up instead. Watch the full trailer below to see what could have been thanks to some liberal editing and more than a few dark musical cues.
