Together at the 2015 AMAs, they performed an amped-up version of the collection’s single, “You Oughta Know,” with the album imagery displayed in the background.
Earlier in the night, Lovato had performed the title track from her most recent album Confident, and she brought that sentiment to Morissette’s classic track.
“You Oughta Know” helped Morissette break out back in 1995. “I loved that song,” Morissette told EW earlier this year in an oral history about Jagged Little Pill, “and I thought it might be easier for people to go on the journey with me from an intense place to a softer place, versus getting comfortable in the softer tender part and then segueing into an intense part. It might have been too jarring.”
Twenty years later, it’s still a knockout.
