Lip Sync Battle: Joseph Gordon-Levitt dressed up as Janet Jackson to perform 'Rhythm Nation'
Joseph Gordon-Levitt defended his throne as the king of celebrity lip-syncers on Thursday’s Lip Sync Battle.
After delivering a high-energy version of Usher’s “Yeah!,” JGL dressed as Janet Jackson to perform a precisely choreographed staging of the 1989 jam “Rhythm Nation.”
For the show’s holiday special, Gordon-Levitt was up against his The Night Before costar Anthony Mackie (Seth Rogen watched on dressed as an elf on the shelf). For his part, Mackie shook his hips to Katy Perry’s “I Kissed a Girl,” and stripped down from a shoulder-padded white suit to a leotard for a retro performance of MC Hammer’s “2 Legit 2 Quit.” Unfortunately for Mackie, the winner was pretty much immediately decided right when JGL started his “Rhythm Nation” countdown. He nailed Jackson’s futuristic, militaristic choreography with amazing accuracy, and then lets loose with his signature impassioned lip syncing.
New episodes of Lip Sync Battle will be back on Spike TV starting Thursday, Jan. 7 at 10 p.m. ET.
