Bindi Irwin has been a Dancing With the Stars fan-favorite since she first stepped into the ballroom, but her partner Derek Hough admits she’s come a long way on the dance floor.

“No joke, she could not dance,” Hough tells EW about their first meeting. “To see her evolve and be aware of her body and [have] this confidence and even her posture is different, it’s awesome. “

Among Team Crikey’s standout performances from the season was their rumba set to “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life,” which Hough counts as one of his favorite Dancing moments of all time.

“I honestly was not sure if we were going to pull that off,” he says. “It’s such an iconic moment in dance and I’m close to some people in the film. I was feeling the pressure so when we pulled that off … it was an amazing moment I’ll never forget.”

Watch the video above for more from Hough, and find out whether or not Bindi is really as happy and full of sunshine as she appears on TV! (You can probably guess the answer.) And don’t forget to tune in to the two-part finale of Dancing With the Stars beginning Monday at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
