Keith and Michael Jeffrey, the brothers who comprise the Aussie alt-pop duo Atlas Genius, released their second album Inanimate Objects earlier this year. Now they’re back with a brooding, sleek cover of The Weeknd’s No. 1 hit “The Hills,” which you can check out below.
“‘The Hills’ is such a brutally honest song,” Keith tells EW. “That’s what we love about The Weeknd as an artist. Mike added this funk groove to it, while I wanted those shimmering guitar and synth parts to explode in the chorus.”
With “The Hills” and his other No. 1 “Can’t Feel My Face,” the Weeknd occupied the top two spots on the Hot 100 for part of September — the first time an artist had accomplished that feat since the Black Eyed Peas in 2009.
Check out the band’s cover of “The Hills” below, and revisit the playlist they made for EW in August, which includes the Rolling Stones and plenty of ’90s alt-rock.[soundcloud url="https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/232309989?secret_token=s-AIO64" params="auto_play=false&hide_related=false&visual=true&show_comments=true&color=false&show_user=true&show_reposts=false" width="100%" height="450" iframe="true" /]
