Charlie Sheen can still draw a crowd. His Today interview on Tuesday, where the actor disclosed his HIV-positive status, delivered 5.5 million viewers.

That’s well over the Today show’s average for the season, but probably would have been much higher if the interview had been announced earlier. Today first touted its Tuesday interview on Monday, presumably because tabloids were set to reveal Sheen was HIV-positive.

Today also had 2.3 million in the key 25-54 demo and easily topped its rival Good Morning America (which had 4.8 million viewers).

For the season, Today is edging out GMA in the demo by 93,000, while GMA is leading in total viewers.
