One Direction released their first album since Zayn Malik exited the group on Friday, and the former boy band member is working on new music, too. In a video interview with The Fader, Malik teased his solo album with “Befour.”

“I don’t feel like people really know what I’m going to give them, musically,” Malik told the magazine in their newest cover story. “And once they hear it, I feel like they will understand me a little bit more.”

Malik’s working with Frank Ocean’s Channel Orange producer James “Malay” Ho and wrote the entirety of his forthcoming solo debut, which does not yet have a release date. In the video, filmed at his home in north London, Malik says life experiences, Bollywood, and ’90s R&B influenced the record.

“It’s a quite personal album and we recorded a lot of it actually out in the woods,” he adds in the clip. “It was just something that we wanted to do because we wanted to make it quite real and genuine.”
